Pioneer Trek

Last weekend Seth and Sierra went on a Pioneer Trek for Youth Conference. They were divided into families with a ma & pa. And several families made up a company. Each family piled all their gear into a handcart and had to pull the handcart on a dirt path about 5 miles over a period of two days. Apparently there were a lot of hills that were hard to get up. Sierra said her family was the last one to roll into camp the first night. There were also fun activities during the trek, such as throwing tomahawks, killing a chicken, square dancing, and milking a fake cow. When I picked the kids up Sunday morning they were dirty, tired, sunburnt, and happy!

On the second day all the boys and men left to train and march in the Mormon Battalion for a couple of hours and the girls had to pull the handcarts by themselves. Here the guys are training for the Mormon Battalion

What an experience that would be! I hope my kids get to do something like that when they are older!

They do such cool things with the youth!

Love the pictures! Where do they do this? I picture them walking down 79 with their handcarts, but I am sure the turn-out wouldn't be that great!

What a wonderful experience those handcart treks are for the youth. I wish that was an experience I had the priviledge of having. Cool pictures, Seth and Sierra! Remember you are "pioneers" in your own time and space.

Our stake did that too. Unfortunately I didn't find out about it until it was too late for Christian.

Sierra and Seth look like they had a really great time.
